TDCS Modulation Analysis in Military Context
Per Lynggaard from Copenhagen University College of Engineering presents his work on TDCS modulation. This research was done in collaboration with CWSA and AAU Cph.
Software Defined Radio (SDR) and Cognitive Radio (CR) are technologies that enable the use of modern modulation types based on Spectral Modulation and Spectral Encoding (SMSE). One of the very promising candidates is the Transform Domain Communication System (TDCS).
This seminar covers the TDCS at a detailed level and undertakes an analysis focusing on the military context. Emphasis on military use is achieved by focusing on topics such as: jamming capability, low probability of detection / interception (LPD/LPI), channel performance with respect to bit error probability, channel capacity / fading and (simultaneous) multi-user characteristics.
In the light of TDCS, the following questions are answered:
- Is it possible to build a wireless communications system that is virtually undetectable working below the thermal noise floor?
- Is it possible to achieve jamming resistance simultaneously?
- Will it offer multiuser capability?
- Is the channel and bit error performance acceptable?
- What military scenarios could benefit from using this type of modulation?
