Exchange programs and ordinary courses
Our semester programs are full time programs lasting one semester (equivalent to 30 ECTS).
Students can also select courses from our ordinary engineering programs taught in English and compose a semester of 30 ECTS.
The semesters are:

Optional Danish or English course
All International students at DTU Diplom have the opportunity to attend courses in Danish (basic) – and English (Intermediate or advanced level according to a placement test) at DTU Diplom.
Students who wish to attend the courses are required to sign up at
the Export Secretariat when the semester starts. The English language
course is 3 ECTS.
The optional course in Danish at Ballerup Language Center is
equivalent to 1 ECTS.
Every semester most of our exchange students attend the Ballerup Language Center to learn a little the Danish language and about the Danish culture. The course is free of charge for exchange students from all of our partner institutions.
Certificate
An official Certificate will be awarded after successful completion of the course.
The Certificate will show the courses you have passed with a grade or a Pass/Fail. Courses you have followed but not passed cannot be shown.
The Certificates will be sent to the international office at the
home institution of the student. Grades are given according to the
regulation of the Danish Ministry of Education with ECTS grades
added.

Prerequisites
In order to qualify as an exchange student, your home institution must have an exchange agreement (ERASMUS or bilateral) with DTU Diplom.
Please check the list of exchange partners before applying - and visit your International Office at your home institution. You home institution must nominate you for exchange, and you must meet the application deadlines:
1 May for the autumn semester and
1 November for the spring semester
Furthermore, we require at least two years (120 ECTS) of relevant university level engineering studies before you can study as an exchange student at DTU Diplom.
We also require all applicants to have a proficiency of English language guaranteed by your home institution, equivalent to no less than TOEFL CBT 213 /TOEFL PBT 550 or IELTS 6.5.
In certain cases we shall require students to present documentation of their proficiency in English, and we recommend students to take the TOEFL or IELTS test when in doubt about their language proficiency.
Application
Application for the exchange semester programs should be at DTU Diplom no later than
1 May for the autumn semester and
1 November for the spring semester
We reccomend students with a citizenship from outside of the EU / EEA countries to apply by 1 April / 1 October in order to have sufficient time for applying for the visa.
We do NOT accept late applications or applications without the required signatures and documentation.
At DTU Diplom we do NOT send out receipts upon receiving the applications.
You will be notified regarding your application status no later than beginning of June/beginning of December when we send out the acceptance letters to the students who are accepted for exchange to our semester programs or individual programs.
Please do not e-mail us for an answer to your application since this prolongs the response time significantly!
Accommodation
Accommodation in Denmark and especially in the Greater Copenhagen area is scarce and expensive.
At DTU Diplom we have access to a limited number of rooms in student halls or with private landlords in the area of Ballerup and Greater Copenhagen. These are for exchange students applying for accommodation before the deadline and are distributed on a first-come-first-served basis.
Most students are offered single rooms with a private bathroom and access to shared kitchen facilities. A few students are offered double rooms and shared bathrooms. The room is furnished with a bed (no linen or duvets), a bed table, a chair, a writing desk and lamp.
You must include your application for accommodation when applying for an exchange programme at DTU Diplom. There may be an application fee of 1000 DKK for your accommodation - and this amount will be deducted from your rent if you accept the place we have found for you and arrive as required.
Otherwise we shall not be able to offer you any accommodation.
If you apply to DTU Diplom for the exchange program and for
accommodation after the application deadline, we shall only be able to
consider your application if we still have study places and housing
vacancies.
Before the semester starts you will receive information about your
accommodation, that is in late July and late December. At DTU
Diplom we shall not be able to fulfil specific requirements about
accommodation.
Rent has gone up in the Copenhagen area and rooms typically cost between DKK 15,000 - 18,000 for one semester. In addition you must pay a deposit (ranging between DKK 4,000 - 6,600). The deposit will be refunded after your return home if the room and furniture is left clean and unbroken.
You are expected to pick up your key for your room no later than one week after the Orientation Day - that is by the end of the first week of your studies at DTU Diplom. If we have a waiting list of students wishing for a room to stay and if you do not pick up your key at DTU Diplom we may give these students 'your room'.
If you arrive in Copenhagen before the Orientation Day (which is the date upon which we have been able to offer you accommodation), please make a reservation at a youth hostel or at a hotel.

Arrival
The Orientation Day for exchange students is conducted on the last Friday before semester start on 1 February 2013. The coming Introduction Week will be late August 2013 before semester start 2 September 2013.
During the Introduction Week exchange students will receive valuable information on the coming exchange period, on the English and Danish language course options etc.
Insurance and medical care
It is very important for you as an exchange student to arrange for private insurance to cover illness, home transportationas well as liability and personal belongings during your stay in Denmark.
We have seen that many students need to visit a doctor during the first weeks of staying in Denmark - perhaps because of the change of climate - and you will need an insurance to cover such expenses.
Students who need medicin on a regular basis must make the necessary arrangements before leaving home.
Further more we strongly recommend all
exchange students to register with the municipal registration office in
Denmark. After a period of six weeks in Denmark you will be able to get
a Yellow Health card from your municipality covering partly the more
ordinary visits to the doctor etc.
